Summary:
The Metal Rhythm Guitar method consists of two books, Volumes 1 & 2. It gets you into playing serious guitar right away. No "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or other pointless exercises. Here you learn the chords, riffs, progressions, concepts, and techniques used across the rock and metal spectrum while at the same time building the solid playing foundation you'll need as a guitarist and musician. It's actually somewhat of a misnomer titled "Metal" as it covers more than just the heavier styles.

Volume 1 starts at the very beginning and builds to an intermediate level. Includes 101 riff examples each demonstrated on the accompanying CD, plus six full songs with band back-up. (One song is at the end of each chapter.) Check out the music examples above. "Whips & Chains" appears at the end of chapter 1. (A beginner will be able to play along after just a few weeks!) "As Darkness Gathers" lies in wait at the end of Volume 1.

Covers: positioning, tuning, getting the sound, reading tab and diagrams, power chords, timing, economy fingering, muting, pedaling the root, upbeat accents, vibrato and string bending, hammers and pulls, fourth dyads, comping, 12-bar changes and its rock applications, open chords, arpeggiation, the blues scale, rhythmic patterns, and more.

The bands’ styles which are specifically mirrored or otherwise investigated include: Alice In Chains, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Black Crowes, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Scorpions, Stone Temple Pilots, Van Halen, White Zombie, and others.
