in the right hand chapter of speed mechanics (page 16)troy speaks about practising with a metronome by moving up '2 units' at a time, does this mean move up in segments of 2 bpm or just a random interval of 4 or 6 bpm, like the non digital wind up metronomes?

I thought he meant 1 unit=4bpm. I have never seen a metronome that allows you to increase 2bpm.

I have a small cheap digital one & a tuner built into my Korg AX1500G. Both can increase in 1bpm increments

It does strike me as odd though, that he uses the term "units" - I see no reason other than the fact that non-digital metronomes increase in larger intervals. Personally, I think increasing by 2 bpm is a little excessive. 4 bpm is fine, and is only minutely faster.

It's psychology. Sometimes I do increase 4 or 5 bpm's at a time, but when I really want to build it up slowly, 2 bpm works for me better, because my brain knows it's only 2 bpm's, very little difference. It also depends on the exercise you are doing. But generally the less you increase the tempo, the more you can learn.
