I've been a Malmsteen fan since high school. I just picked the G3 Live in Denver DVD. As the Menu screen was booting up I observed the pictures of Satriana and Via, who looked much the same since my high school days. Then came Yngwie. He looked like a Jack Black caricature of himself. What happened? Time for Atkins Yngwie. I still enjoyed his part of the DVD the best (I'm sure most of you will disagree on that point). However, his rock star antics looked ridiculous in conjuction with his bloating frame.

I totally agree. He's a total bloater these days...he really needs to go and have a word with himself. He can still shred though, there's no doubt about that...obviously spends more time munching cakes than playing guitar these days.

One last note. Now that Yngwie is done, what's the deal with Satch? Why is he wearing that flower pot on his head. He looks like he escaped from the Star Trek Evil dimension where he was a member of the Spice Girls. I appreciate that Joe doesn't want to blind the audience with his shiny pate but come on. Maybe it's a kinder gentler Devo? I don't know.

Sunglasses still symbolize cool on some kind of level. I'm not sure what the floppy black doilee (spelling?) symbolizes or in what culture it might be cool.

Uhm, well, it's been said to have been a bit up and down on occasion, usually the latter being the case, so that generally speaking you should put up with it or put it off entirely, yes.

Believe it or not, I am printing out this picture and using it as a christmas card to my friends and relatives.

I completely agree! I loved watching those l'il smokies fly over the fret board. He not only a great guitar player but some emotional oomph behind his songs that I think Satriana and Vai lack.

I enjoyed some of Yngwies solo performances on the DVD but I thought he was totally blown away in the jamming section by Vai and Satch.

I prefer Yngwie's style to that of Vai or Satriana and he seemed to have more "energy". Though I will admit by the end of the DVD he was starting to sound repetitous. Vai and Satriana appear to be far more versatile in techniques and composition. Bottom line is I felt Yngwie was more fun!

Returning to the original thread topic for a minute, did anyone notice on DT live at the Budokan JLB looks a bit like a fat Edward Scissor hands?

I haven't got into DT yet. I will have to check them out. I remember a buddy of mine getting one of their CDs abck around 1994 or so. I wasn't all that psyched by it then. But my tastes have changed.

I love Awake some of my favourite DT songs on there e.g. 6:00, Erotomania

Falling into Infinity is often slated for being too 'commercial' (which is a term I hate btw, I mean of course they want to sell records!) but IMHO there is a couple of good songs on there Trial of Tears, h*ll s Kitchen

Once again you losers miss the point. I have never liked Yngwie. Neo-classical shreaders just masterbate their guitars. No real melody, their lyrics suck, etc. etc. The fact that Malmsteen is now a fat turd is not important. He sucked before he got fat. The fact that you losers now make fun of him because of his weight just goes to show how stupid and shallow you are. If you want to make fun of the guy make fun of his music, not his fat ass. Yngwie is a dick who always insulted his fans and the people he played with. The guy knows he's a fat cow so those comments don't hurt him. Tell him his music sucks, that will hurt a lot more....BTW I hate you all. You suck, may you all have early deaths.

Now, now, jbarrylong, how nice of you to say we miss the point; when it's actually the other way round. Is it bad to laugh a second with someone appearance? I wouldn't see why... If you'd been around a little longer, you'd see that a) lots of people here actually appreciate what Yngwie can play and what he plays, they respect him. And b) along with that, many will agree that though shredding (that's to shred, mind you; as well as it's masturbate) might be fun for a little while, it easily gets boring. Most people will agree when you say that Yngwie exaggerates. However, I wouldn't dare say he sucks, he actually has plenty of melody, except that those songs are often a lot less famous or wellknown, plus the melody often goes so fast that it's not always obvious when just listening "half-attentive". On top of that, there's plenty good bands who make really good and enjoyable music, without there being a very obvious melodyline.
I'll see the light, tonight  features a killer lick imo; the solo is blazing fast, but if you listen carefully, you'll definitely here some nice combinations and cool licks. As to the lyrics: Yngwie's are terribly bad most times indeed. But so are those of 75% music out there.

Adding to that: Yngwie is technique-wise one of the best players around, even if you don't like his music, a bit of respect is at the order.
Oh, and btw, your attitude here is even more arrogant than that one of Yngwie himself. I do not wish you an early death, because I don't judge people by one post, or even 10, or a thousand. I gave my opinion, so did others; unless I'm saying things like it's ok to go f***
some 6-year old, you have no reason to judge me or any other here. But well, if you enjoy insulting and shouting dumb things, be my guest.

Yngwie would be awsome if he just strapped his guitar a little higher, instead of playing it so low like some alternative goth rocker.

On a serious note, cool response MisterE.
